OUTREACH PROJECT INFORMATION

Deirdre McKenna worked with four senior citizens from the Ardoyne Community Healthcare Centre on a series of sessions using clay. This was a new medium for all the participants, most of whom were over eighty years old. The group created four clay heads and the final artworks were used to complement the PLAN X exhibition. We saw these clay heads as the essence of wisdom and used them to balance the strangeness of the rocket debris and aliens.

The four wise men overseeing the alien antics in the gallery were created by Bob Rogers, James Sherrie, Brian McDonald and David Matthews from the Ardoyne Healthy Living Centre.

Deirdre had a ball with these gentlemen and the learning process went both ways: as Deirdre revealed the enigmas of clay portraiture she was given an illuminating history of North Belfast.
