OUTREACH PROJECT INFORMATION
|
This series of workshops began initially as a mural project which would explore ideas around local and Irish mythology. However, as we were unable to get permission for a suitable wall on which to site the mural- we had hoped to situate it in an area where the participants socialise - the project has evolved into a large painting. During the workshops the group has remembered legends and discussed elements of fantasy, reworking and recreating these as images which will finally be incorporated into a large free-standing painting. The painting will be sited in a number of temporary locations over the next few months to bring it to a wide audience. Myths are often generated by cultural needs and as a means of cultural expression; as such the finished painting will evoke a sense of the mystery of the past while incorporating both contemporary and historical 'symbolism', alongside various fantastical representations, drawing on the interests of the group of girls. -------------- Download a PDF with a sample of the work completed in this project.
